The Pantry offers a wonderful assortment of groceries, dairy, meats and bread, providing bags of groceries that are picked from a shopping list at each visit. But we can only do this because of the support we receive by people like you.
The Scituate Food Pantry is an independent, all-volunteer nonprofit and tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organization. We receive no funding from the town of Scituate, the state of Massachusetts, or federal government.
The Pantry has moved to a new location!
As of June 29th we will be operating out of the old Gates Cafeteria at 327 First Parish Road.
In preparation for your first visit to the new Pantry, please take a moment to look over our map on how to arrive for curbside pick-up. If you are visiting the pantry as a volunteer, we ask that you park across the street at the First Parish Unitarian Universalist Church.
We look forward to our continue to serve our neighbors from a new space and we can't wait to share it all with you. See you at the Pantry!
So what is food insecurity?
Food Insecurity is used by the US Department of Agriculture to describe conditions in which the food intake of household members is reduced and their normal eating patterns are disrupted because lack of money and resources to purchase food. The family’s finances is the most obvious reason for food insecurity but other reasons include physical or mental limitations, living alone and lack of transportation. The latest available statistics show that about 10% of families in the Scituate area were food insecure during 2015-2018
Since 1992, The Scituate Food Pantry has assisted over 500 Scituate families totaling approximately 1,100 people. The Pantry was created by the Scituate Clergy Association as a modest “emergency” food pantry but has been continually expanding the services to reflect the growing number of families in need.
Currently, the pantry serves 250+ families who are eligible to receive nutritious food twice a month which includes frozen meat/fish, fresh produce, vegetables and fruit as well as non-perishable canned foods of all types. Special attention is paid to those with dietary restrictions and we distribute extra food during the holidays. Our goal is to be able to provide a complete Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner to those families that are in need.
